It is time to tell you about the first bedroom in our summerhouse.
We decided to have the bedrooms quite different; one light and quite romantic and the next one quite dark and a bit more eccentric.
The bedroom was like the rest of the house, covered in pine and as you can see from the top image the bed faced the door as soon as you entered the room.
We decided to turn it to the left to get more space when you entered and to get an easier access to the cabinets.
We believe the reason for turning the bed the way they used to was to have more storage in the room, they actually fitted a dresser next to the bed but since the house will not be used as much by us and more by guests we don’t need quite as much permanent storage solutions.
Firstly we wanted to lighten the space up, painted the ceilings white as well as the doors, the windows and window frames. The walls got to be in the grey colour, same as the rest of the house.
Gulla, our dear friend, had a little vacation from her studies abroad when we renovated the house and she came as soon as we called to help us out. Seriously, it is so very precious to have friends like that!
Gunna, another helping hand, came and renovated the frame. It was s very cheap old second hand plastic framed mirror we sanded lightly. Based it with a base foundation and did a top coat with white lacquer.
This little bedside table we also got at a second hand store very cheaply. Same process: cleaning, light sanding, base foundation and a top coat of white lacquer. The knobs my sister got some time ago in Copenhagen so they fitted perfectly!
The bed frame is from IKEA as well as the table lamp. The wall lamp is also from IKEA but we had that from some time ago and now it found itself a place to belong!
The curtains came with the house and again we thank the previous owners for quality in their choices! Full darkness curtains are a necessity here in Iceland whereas the summer nights have full daylight for the whole 24 hours!
The bedspread was sewn at Volcano Design’s sewing room as well as most of the cushions. The pink velvet cushions we got at Sostrene Grene but the other ones we made.
The white crochet throw is also from IKEA but a quite old collection, sadly not available anymore.
Here you can see the mirror, perfect by the bed!
We decided to use a simple fold chair as the other side table. It was light and simple and doesn't take much space, plus we found it was very “beachy” and “summerhouse-y” (that’s a word, right?!)
The cross is made by Krista Design but they offer two sizes of these beauties!
The wreath in the window is also from Krista Design. This one I absolutely love! It can be used as a Christmas decoration but it is also perfect for the whole year around!
The images on the wall María printed from this page:
Here you can also see the smaller version of the wall cross.
The pole is for the bed spread during the nights and the heart is the same collection from Krista Design as the wall crosses.
So, this was bedroom one and we are completely thrilled with it! It is very light and airy and very different from the next room, (more coming soon).
Create your own happiness!
